The City of Loveland Utilities Department is replacing aging waterlines in the Namaqua Hills neighborhood to improve water service reliability and reduce frequent breaks. The existing 6‑inch cast‑iron lines were installed in the 1960s and placed directly on bedrock, which shifts over time and has caused repeated failures.

To address this, crews will excavate sections of bedrock and install new 8‑inch PVC waterlines on a sand or gravel base. This foundation will better protect the system and support the community’s water needs well into the future.

Project Impacts

Following inspections, the City identified Morning Drive, Juniper Lane, and parts of Skyrock Road and Ponderosa Drive as priority areas for replacement. Construction will begin April 27 and is expected to continue through October 2026. Work will generally take place Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional Saturdays if needed.

Road closures will occur in phases as work moves through the neighborhood. Local access will remain open, and crews will coordinate to maintain mail, trash, and delivery services. Due to the composition of bedrock and the equipment needed, residents can expect heavy equipment to be staged in the roadway and should expect loud working conditions.

Temporary water service will be used at times throughout the project. Hand-delivered notices will be provided at least 48 hours before any planned outage or transition to temporary service.

Please refer to the project FAQ on the sidebar of this page for answers to common questions and additional details.

Project Funding

The Namaqua Waterline Replacement Project is funded through the Utilities Enterprise Fund. Enterprise funds are dedicated funds supported by user fees in the monthly utility bill. Similar to a business, user fees fund the operation, maintenance, administration, and capital improvement projects required to provide the service.
