Why are the waterlines being replaced?

Originally installed in the 1960s, the existing 6-inch cast-iron waterlines have experienced frequent breaks because they were placed directly on bedrock, which can shift over time. As part of this project, crews will excavate through the bedrock and install the new 8-inch PVC waterline on a sand or gravel base to create a more stable and protective foundation, which will improve overall performance.

Where and when will work take place?

Construction is scheduled to begin April 27 and continue through October 2026. Work will occur along Morning Drive and Juniper Lane as well as sections of Skyrock Road and Ponderosa Drive in the Namaqua Hills neighborhood. These areas have been identified as priority locations based on the age and condition of the existing infrastructure.

    How will traffic be affected?

Roads with active construction will be closed in phases. Work will begin on Morning Drive from the intersection with Skyrock Drive to Juniper Lane. Access for local residents will be maintained throughout the project.

    Will there be pedestrian impacts?

This area does not have sidewalks, however residents used to walking the neighborhood should be aware that the construction zone will be closed to pedestrian traffic for safety and due to changing conditions. Residents should always use caution near construction equipment and activity.

Will local water service be interrupted?

Residents within the work zone will be switched to temporary water in phases. Affected residents may experience short-term service interruptions. Hand-delivered notices will be provided at least 48 hours before and planned outage or transition to temporary water.

Residents may also experience discolored water when construction activity stirs sediment in the pipe. If this happens, they are encouraged to run their faucets until it clears.

Will my mail or trash services be interrupted?

Crews will work to make sure trash services are not interrupted.

Mail and delivery services will be allowed through however residents should make notes for delivery services such as Amazon and FedEx.

    What else should residents expect?

    • Due to the composition of bedrock and the equipment involved in excavation, residents should expect louder working conditions.
    • The expected working hours for this project are Monday-Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with the potential for evening or Saturday work if crews need to keep on schedule.
    • Heavy equipment like excavators will likely be staged in the roadway especially when there is an open trench to help act as trench protection.

Will construction include the connectivity from 22nd Street to Morning Drive?

No, this project does not include the connection between 22nd Street and Morning Drive. For questions about this roadway connection, please contact the Public Works Department at 970-962-2524 or email PublicWorksInfo@cityofloveland.org.
