East First Street Full Closure Extended Through Mid-April

Loveland, Colo. – March 25, 2026 – The City of Loveland will extend the full closure of East First Street, just east of the North Denver Avenue intersection, through mid-April because current conditions do not allow the eastbound lane to safely reopen during wastewater pipeline installation. Access will be maintained for local residents, businesses and emergency vehicles.

Before construction began, the City took steps to identify underground conditions to plan safe travel through the work zone. Despite these efforts, crews have encountered unexpected utility conflicts and varying soil conditions during construction.

Keeping the full closure in place is expected to speed up construction and could allow the road to reopen two to three weeks early, in early May. After the full closure, the eastbound lane will reopen to through traffic, while the westbound lane will remain closed into early May. The project is expected to be completed by June 2026.

Detour information

During the full closure, eastbound traffic on First Street will be detoured north on Denver Avenue, east on U.S. 34/Eisenhower Boulevard and south on Boyd Lake Avenue. As crews move east, they will work to reopen sections of the road for additional local access as soon as it is safe.

Westbound traffic will detour east on First Street, which becomes Corvus Drive and East Fifth Street, to connect with Boyd Lake Avenue. Traffic will then travel north to U.S. 34/Eisenhower Boulevard, west to Denver Avenue and south back to First Street.

The project schedule is subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.
