Why are we doing this project?

    Safety first
These intersections have more crashes than similar intersections in our area. Between 2021 and 2023, there were 83 crashes at these two locations, including 23 that caused injuries. We want to fix the problems that are causing these crashes.

    Too much traffic congestion
About 65,000 vehicles use these intersections every day. During busy times, traffic backs up and people experience long delays. As our community continues to grow, this problem will only get worse without improvements.

    Better options for getting around
Right now, it's difficult and often unsafe to walk or bike through this area. Our bus stops don't have the features riders need, like shelters from weather or easy access for people with disabilities.

    What will change?

    Safer Intersections

    • Better turn lanes so traffic flows more smoothly
    • Improved traffic signals that respond to current conditions
    • Clearer views and better lighting that improve sight lines

    Easier walking and biking

    • Wider sidewalks (8 to 12 feet wide) that people can share for walking and biking
    • Safe crossing islands in the middle of the road where people can wait safely
    • Shorter crossing distances so you spend less time in the roadway
    • Better signals with countdown timers and pedestrian buttons

    Transfer Station

We would like to relocate the transfer station located on 8th Street to the south side of this intersection. This hub will include:

    • Protection from the elements like rain, snow and sun
    • Easy access for people using wheelchairs or walkers
    • Safe areas for picking up and dropping off riders

    The new hub will connect:

    • Four City of Loveland bus routes
    • Two regional bus routes currently running
    • Three new regional routes being planned
    • A possible future passenger rail station

How will this project benefit Loveland?

    If you drive:

    • Spend less time sitting in traffic
    • Experience fewer delays during your commute
    • Navigate through the intersections more safely

    If you walk or bike:

    • Feel safer using improved sidewalks and bike paths
    • Cross the highway more easily with better signals and crossing areas
    • Enjoy wider paths with more room

    If you take the bus:

    • Connect more easily between different bus routes
    • Better facilities with weather protection and potential restrooms
    • Use accessible facilities that meet everyone's needs

    Benefits:

    • Fewer crashes and injuries
    • Cleaner air from less traffic idling
    • Better connections throughout our community
    • A more welcoming downtown area
