Construction Update: March 9-13

Hello Loveland! Thank you for your patience during the break in updates. We hope you have seen the steady progress along Taft in recent weeks.

We are returning to the weekly update style you are used to. Below is a look at this week’s accomplishments and what is coming next. If you missed any of the work that happened during the pause in updates, we encourage you to check out our recent recap to catch up on all the activity.

Progress March 9-13

• All customers along Taft are now connected to the new waterline. The last temporary water connections were switched over early this week, and crews began installing a section of sewer line near Abarr Pond that helps wrap up the water work.

• Another crew focused on stormwater improvements along the lake and worked to prepared the sites at 22nd and 18th Streets for upcoming large vault installations.

• Project leads, engineers and designers reviewed options for continued work that improves control of stormwater flows into Lake Loveland. Higher than normal water levels for this time of year created challenges for the original plans that required heavy equipment on the lakebed to work at the lake's edge. A revised approach is moving forward and may delay some work until late 2026 or early 2027. These delayed portions are not expected to significantly affect traffic and may help put the current project timeline slightly ahead of schedule.

• A paving crew continued paving along Taft and on side streets where no construction work is underway.

• Traffic speed was reduced to 20 MPH through the work zone due to drivers traveling well above 35 MPH. The Police Department has been notified and will patrol the area as available to help keep crews, neighbors and commuters safe.

Look Ahead

• All remaining T. Lowell crews will focus on stormwater work. Some will finish stormwater outfalls along the lake, while most will be working at 22nd and 18th Streets. Watch for major progress in the next few weeks as crews begin placing Carlsonator vaults, which filter debris from stormwater before it reaches the lake. A crane will be delivered to 22nd Street and Taft Avenue on Tuesday, March 17. After a brief break, it will return about a week later to assist with the vault at 18th Street.

• With waterline work complete and stormwater work moving quickly, we are starting to think about the end of the project. T. Lowell crews will continue working through March and into mid-April. Beginning in April, Public Works staff will repair concrete along curbs and sidewalks. Starting in May and following the concrete work, Public Works crews plan to complete milling and paving to restore the roadway for normal traffic by early June, weather permitting.

• All detours will remain in place until the end of the project. Local access between Taft Avenue and 20th Street is expected to stay open when possible, which is a priority for the project team. However, construction conditions can change quickly, and schedules may shift as needed.

Working Hours

Weather permitting, crews work Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional Saturday work.
