FRPR Station
The City of Loveland is beginning a planning process to prepare for a future intercity passenger rail station as part of the Front Range Passenger Rail (FRPR) program. This effort will evaluate the proposed station location and create a vision for the surrounding area. It will also look at how the station connects to local transit, nearby streets, and community destinations.
The rail system is designed to provide a safe, reliable, and efficient way to travel. It will connect major cities, job centers, and key destinations across the region. The service aims to be competitive with driving, give people more travel options, and support the region’s economy.
Partnership with Front Range Passenger Rail District
This work builds on earlier planning led by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Front Range Passenger Rail District (FRPRD). The City will continue to work with these and other regional partners to ensure the station area aligns with the broader vision for passenger rail along Colorado’s Front Range.
Passenger rail service is expected to roll out in phases and expand over time. The first phase, known as “Joint Service,” is planned to include three daily round trips between Loveland and Denver, with a target start date of 2029. Future phases will expand service between Loveland and Pueblo with upgraded infrastructure and more frequent trains, along with potential extensions to Wyoming and New Mexico.
The station planning effort will support both the initial “Joint Service” and the long-term rail system. Throughout the process, the City will coordinate with partners and provide regular updates, along with opportunities for public input.
Purpose and Goals
The purpose of this project is to create a plan for the future station site and get ready for next steps. This includes looking at possible impacts, identifying needed infrastructure, and improving connections for different types of travel, like walking, biking, driving, and transit. The project will also explore opportunities for development near the station and review possible funding options.
The Front Range Passenger Rail District (FRPRD), the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), and BNSF Railway have identified a preferred station location in Loveland that balances cost, efficiency, and operational needs. Through this process, the City will align with the larger passenger rail program and be prepared to move forward with environmental review and future station improvements.
