Deployment of Pulse - Loveland's trusted local utility connecting the Loveland community by offering affordable, reliable and fast internet and voice service - is now in progress.

Construction on the core and distribution networks began in November 2019 and will continue over the next three to four years as we build our 100% fiber-optic network across the city so that all residents and businesses have the opportunity to connect.

  • Meet Colorado Boring drill operator, Nick Ames

    I am a drill operator with Colorado Boring, a company I have been proud to work with for 10 years.

    I live in Windsor but I’m originally from Denver. I moved up here in 1995. I’m a mountain person so when I came up from the big city, it was nice to be somewhere that wasn’t as congested.

    In my role as a drill operator, I am responsible for operating the drill that is used in the boring process. The hole that I drill is where the conduit will be. I work hand-in-hand with the spotter who tells me where I am and where the drill needs to go. Boring is an interesting process. It is less intrusive than trenching because we don’t create a large open hole all the way through the neighborhood. We use equipment to drill a small hole in an area to open up space in the ground for the conduit. Then we pull the conduit through that same hole without impacting the area above the borehole. This is a less disruptive and more efficient process for our community and we specialize in this process.

    My favorite part about working with Colorado Boring is that we’re all located and all connected in the community in some way or another. We have a lot of family members that work with us, and I’ve known a lot of the guys since elementary school. We also have friends of the family members who all work well together and are committed to doing a great job. It’s really like a family.

    It is also important to me that our work with Pulse is making the community better. As a local company, we care about the people in our area.

    Outside of work I also enjoy car racing, like drag racing and track racing.

    Meet the On Trac Project Manager, Eric Crenwelge. On Trac, Inc. is the installation services partner for Pulse that connects residential and business customers to the Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) network as they sign up for services.

    “I have been with On Trac for a little over a year now. I came to this industry from the education field, where I spent nine years as a teacher and football/baseball coach in Texas. Before becoming the Loveland Project Manager for On Trac, I worked as an operations supervisor for the Fort Collins Connexion project.

    I manage our team that serves Loveland residents by connecting their Pulse fiber internet and phone service once they have subscribed. Installation includes burying fiber in the customer’s yard, installing the network box on the side of the house, running it inside the home, and connecting and activating all the in-home equipment.

    Every day working on the Pulse project offers something new, and I love getting to work with the Loveland community to bring them a product built just for them. Driving around town in a Pulse branded van has led to many conversations in neighborhoods, parking lots, and even people wanting to talk at stoplights. It’s great to see the excitement for Pulse in the community!

    My wife, Hannah, and I moved our family to Fort Collins over a year ago to begin our new journey in northern Colorado. However, it’s not my first stint in the state. Growing up, my Dad was stationed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and ever since moving away, I knew I wanted to make it back. I’m excited to get to watch my two boys, Witten (2) and Colton (8 months) grow up in this community and be raised in the beautiful outdoors.

    Coming from Texas, I love the weather here. It allows me to spend most of my days off outside with my family going to different parks or hiking trails. Our family loves baseball, and we look forward to checking out Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story, and Charlie Blackmon down at Coors Field. We also love getting out and exploring all the great dining options. Some of our favorites include Taqueria Rancho Alegre, Origins Wine Bar & Wood Fired Pizza, and Loveland Breakfast Club. We always want to try new places, so if you have recommendations, send them my way!”

  • Pulse in progress: What to know about locates as Pulse construction continues

    As the weather gets warmer and yard work begins, it is important to learn about locates and the role they play in Pulse construction efforts. For the community’s safety and to keep all your existing utilities operating smoothly, please take a moment to educate yourself about these important construction tools.

    • Locates are installed by professional locator crews and need to remain in place. It may seem harmless to remove a locate flag to mow your lawn, but if these are gone it could mean a power outage, water line leak or more issues.
    • Each color on a locate identifies a different utility line. For example, orange is for a communications line, yellow is for a natural gas line, red is for an electric line and blue is for a water line. Additional colors and meanings can be found in our Locate FAQs.
    • Spray paint marks will fade naturally and our teams will remove flags when the project has been completed. Please – do not remove locates. Protecting locates is the first step toward protecting you, utility workers and other critical utility lines from harm. Construction began in November 2019 and will take three to four years to complete.

    I’ve lived in Northern Colorado my whole life. I was born at UCHealth Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins and moved to Milliken when I was 12. I went to high school in Johnstown and now I live in Greeley with my wife.

    I’ve been with Colorado Boring since September 2019. Before that, I worked for a distribution company. We did sales for the agricultural and oil industries.

    This is the first time I’ve worked in the broadband and fiber-optic industry. I had a good idea about how it worked but have gained a much broader spectrum of understanding when we started working with Pulse.

    We have heard from some community members and most are pretty excited to have a new connection coming into the neighborhood. We’ve even heard from some residents that don’t have internet access right now, so hopefully, Pulse is going to be able to bring in the connection they need.

    We’ve had a lot of good interactions with people while working. People want to know what we’re doing and what’s going on, and are sharing their excitement.

    Loveland residents are always so welcoming. I’ve even been offered a burrito! I love my job, I really like everything that I do. Working with everyone at the company is great.

    Outside of work, I like to fish and hunt and hang out with my wife.

    Resilient. That is just one word that describes our Loveland community. During this difficult, ever-changing time for all of us, we take comfort in being part of such a resilient, exceptional community.

    Pulse exists to connect you, our residents and businesses, to the world through high-speed internet. There has never been a clearer sign that this service is essential to Loveland. Our team has a critical role to play in keeping and building resilience and redundancy in our city’s communications infrastructure and we will continue to do so as a city of Loveland utility and essential service following state and county orders.


    During this time, our team will continue to maintain existing infrastructure such as legacy fiber leases and build out Loveland’s fiber-optic network to do our part in keeping our community connected to the resources they need most. As we continue this important work, we have increased safety measures to ensure the health and safety of city staff, construction crews and the residents in our community.

    Here is what we are doing to keep our teams and our residents safe during this time:

    • All Pulse team members are adhering to City of Loveland directives and maintaining appropriate social distancing measures in the workplace. We are either working remotely or in split shifts.

    • Reduced construction crew sizes to maintain social distancing while maintaining a safe work environment.

    • Performing daily temperature checks for field crews.

    • Cleaning and sanitizing standards have been increased - equipment and vehicles are being sanitized more frequently. Crews also carry extra wipes and hand sanitizer in their trucks.

    • Crews are wearing gloves and maintaining appropriate social distancing measures when distributing construction information materials to residents.

  • Pulse in Progress - Construction on City’s 100% fiber-optic network underway

    Fall has been a busy time for Pulse, the City’s communications utility that is connecting the Loveland community by offering affordable, reliable and fast internet and voice service through a 100% fiber-optic network.

    Pulse was approved by city council in November 2018 to ensure that all residents and businesses across the city had access to affordable, reliable, fast internet service that provides the same high level of customer service available to residents today.

    On Nov. 13, City staff, elected officials, contractors and community members broke ground to launch construction efforts that will bring the Pulse network in front of every home and business in the city over the next three to four years.

    What’s in a network

    The Pulse network will have three parts: the core network, distribution network and customer connections. The core network and telecommunications huts installed in Loveland are what connect the City to telecommunications hubs across the U.S. The distribution network is the fiber that needs to be installed across the city. Customer connections are the last piece, connecting homes or businesses to the rest of the network. They are only installed when a customer subscribes to service.

    The first Pulse telecommunications equipment hut was installed at the Loveland Water and Power Service Center Oct. 31 and the remaining four huts will be installed across the city before the end of the year.

    What to expect moving forward

    Construction resources are available at LovelandPulse.com. Public construction and service maps will not be available as that information can be misused by competing internet service providers in the area.

    Service information is expected to be announced in the first half of 2020. Fill out the early interest form to receive information about service when it is available in our area.
